Groundbreaking New Book Documents Widespread Election Fraud
by Jason Leopold
Arguably, any mainstream coverage these days of election fraud, a topic of such national significance that it literally affects anyone who has ever cast a ballot, can be credited to a handful of hard core voting rights activists and muckraking citizen journalists who have made it their life's mission to overhaul the way people vote and restore much needed integrity to the process. The scientists' warnings that this year's historic presidential election can be tinkered with came on the heels of the publication of a groundbreaking new book, "Loser Take All," click here a collection of eye-opening investigative reports into past issues of election fraud authored by voting rights experts, activists, and journalists, who used old-fashioned gumshoe reporting to expose the seedy side of the business of counting votes. Unlike the reportage leading up the invasion of Iraq, which relied heavily on anonymous sources who spoon fed mainstream reporters wild tales of Iraq's vast weapons cache, lapped up by Pulitzer Prize winning journalists and printed as fact, the reports about stolen elections, the massive purge of minorities and poor people from voter rolls, in "Loser Take All" is backed up by smoking gun evidence in the form of documents and on the record accounts from public officials and behind-the-scenes executives employed by e-voting companies.

WE NEED A NEW PARTY - THE HONEST AMERICAN PEOPLE PARTY!I am American, not a democrat (1:An advocate of democracy.-The common people, considered as the primary source of political power."YES" 2:A member of the Democratic Party. "NO" )or republican! (1:One who favors a republic-A political order in which the supreme power lies in a body of citizens who are entitled to vote for officers and representatives responsible to them.- as the best form of government. "YES" 2:A member of the Republican Party. "NO" ) Why does voting have to be secret? All we have to do is publish everyones vote!I'm not afraid of people knowing how I voted.Should I be?Publish everyones vote so they can see if their vote was counted correctly if at all. There would then be no doubt who really won.I will never believe that the American public was ever stupid enough to put Bush in office,EVER!

Let's End This Two Party System! The Daily Scare
by Tim Gatto
The two party system in America is responsible for all the war, loss of civil liberties, the capture of our mass media by corporate ownership and the outsourcing of American industries to foreign lands. The two party system has failed America by catering to the mega-wealthy that finance their political campaigns and allows them to bank offshore in tax-havens that hide taxable income from our government with no fear of repercussion. The Democrats and Republicans for all of their blustering talk in Congress have continued to vote in lockstep and bring this nation to the brink of bankruptcy.
During the period after 9/11 we have seen our civil liberties abrogated. The Patriot Act, which allows a search of your residence without you being there or your knowledge if you are declared a “suspected terrorist, The Military Commission Act of 2006, which allows “interrogation up to the point of organ failure and psychological interrogation as long as a mental breakdown lasts no longer than a few months, The Insurrection Act that eliminates posse commitatus , the amendment that says the Federal Government cannot use Federal troops for Law Enforcement, that only the Governors of the States can do that under state control, The Presidential directives especially PD 51 that gives the President control of all three branches in the event of a National Emergency, the bill now in the Senate S 1959 the so-called “Thought Control Bill” that can hold people responsible for getting others to incite violence through what they read on the internet. The end run around the FISA Act that would have allowed the President to authorize eavesdropping on suspected terrorists as long as they gave the court a warrant three days after the fact, and Congress has allowed this law-breaking by the President.
We have also seen a War in Iraq and a War in Afghanistan that has cost this nation over 5,000 lives in what the government will admit to, while the real death toll is at least 15.000 but once the casualty is medivac’d he or she is not counted as a casualty of the war. Both parties threaten each other and offer great debates on C-SPAN for our benefit, while colluding with each other to maximize profits for themselves and their corporate sponsor’s. We sit silently watching C-Span and root for “our” side, but when the roll call is made we see a lopsided vote, and the most virulent speakers cave-in and vote for bills authorizing the use of force, declaring another nation’s military a “terrorist” organization, authorizing more war funds, and creating a new bureaucracy like The Department of Homeland Security that does nothing but gobble up taxpayer’s money.
The Democratic candidates save Mike Gravel, Dennis Kucinich and John Edwards are married to the corporate structure of this country. It is ridiculous to believe that any save Ron Paul and the three I mentioned above doing anything different than what is being done now. This is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, the long and short of it, so to speak. Anyone that believes we can change this nation and push back what has transpired by working within the two party system is deluded. I myself would love to run for Congress from my district in South Carolina. How do you think that would work out for me? I could have the most remarkable platform, appeal to both Democrats and Republicans, and I would be laughed out of the room. I know no one and I don’t have ten years to “cultivate” backers. Either do the rest of the people in this country save those that are already entrenched in corporate party politics.
My opinion is that John Edwards will ramp up his rhetoric. I believe Ron Paul will run as an Independent, he has the money and the momentum. I am waiting to hear Edwards get in the ring and truly speak “Truth to Power”. If he can’t do it under the Democratic banner then he should also run as an independent. If Edwards and Paul both run as Independents, we will have effectively destroyed the two-party system and let the best man win. If this happens, I will run as an Independent for Congress from South Carolina. The two-party system has to go. If Edwards stays his course and doesn’t make a huge issue of civil liberties and an end to foreign involvement, we should all back Ron Paul. Whatever happens, we all have a vested interest in breaking the two-party system.
That’s the way I see it.

Paper Ballots and Audits in Time for Election Day 2008!
Paper Ballots and Audits in Time for Election Day 2008!

Tell Your Congressman to Vote for HR 5036 “The Emergency Election Assistance for Secure Elections Act”
Majority Leader Steny Hoyer has scheduled a House Floor vote on “The Emergency Election Assistance for Secure Elections Act” for this Tuesday.
The bill would provide states with funds if they put in place a paper-based voting system with mandatory audits on Election Day. This bill could go a long way to making the vote count of the 2004 election more trustworthy.
TrueVote's goal is as strong a House vote as possible to demonstrate that all Americans agree we need to have a true vote – a vote we can trust. This is a non-partisan issue as election integrity is basic to a functioning democracy. Two steps are needed:
1. 1. Send this article to people you know. We need a strong national vote. The TrueVoteMD.org (an organization which led the efforts to end paperless voting in Maryland) website is set up to send emails to every member of Congress from voters in their district. (ABOVE LINK) Forward this email widely and urge those who receive it to do the same.
2. Send a letter to your representative in Congress. Click ABOVE LINK to send the letter. Only 17 states have a voter verified paper record and require an audit. Key states like Florida, Michigan and Ohio do not require both a paper ballot and audit.
H.R. 5036 will help ensure election integrity in time for the November 2008 election by providing funds for voter verified paper records and audits of the vote on Election Day.
On Tuesday, April 15 the U.S. House of Representatives will vote so please send the letter IMMEDIATELY. Click ABOVE LINK to send the letter.
Counting the vote right in a way people can trust is the foundation of legitimate government. We know the solution. Now we must make transparent democracy national.

Old Country Preacher
An old country preacher had a teenage son, and it was getting time the boy should give some thought to choosing a profession.Like many young men, the boy didn't really know what he wanted to do, and he didn't seem too concerned about it.One day, while the boy was away at school, his father decided to try an experiment. He went into the boy's room and placed on his study table four objects:a Bible,a silver dollar,a bottle of whiskyand a Playboy magazine'I'll just hide behind the door,' the old preacher said to himself, 'when he comes home from school this afternoon,I'll see which object he picks up.If it's the Bible, he's going to be a preacher like me and what a blessing that would be! If he picks up the dollar, he's going to be a businessman, and that would be okay, too. But if he picks up the bottle, he's going to b e a no-good drunkard, and, Lord, what a shame that would be.And worst of all, if he picks up that magazine he's gonna be a skirt-chasin' bum.' The old man waited anxiously, and soon heard his son's footsteps as he entered the house whistling and headed for his room. The boy tossed his books on the bed, and as he turned to leave the room he spotted the objects on the table. With curiosity in his eye, he walked over to inspect them. Finally, he picked up the Bible and placed it under his arm.He picked up the silver dollar and dropped it into his pocket. He uncorked the bottle and took a big drink while he admired this month's Centerfold.'Lord have mercy,' the old preacher disgustedly whispered, 'He's gonna run for Congress!'

Introduction: An Overview Of Deep Capture Deep Capture
January 24th, 2008 by Patrick Byrne
Dear Reader,
Since early 2005 I have been criticizing our nation’s financial system. Some recent news stories displayed confusion regarding my claims. I will therefore state them here in a way that will be difficult for others to misunderstand or misconstrue. Then in subsequent posts I will review evidence that has emerged over these past two years and evaluate the degree to which that evidence has confirmed or falsified my claims.
I can reduce my theory to ten simple claims:
1. The Securities & Exchange Commission, regulator of our nation’s capital markets, has been partially captured by financial elites to the point that it favors Wall Street over Main Street.
2. A clear regulatory violation (in fact, a crime) is routinely occurring in our capital markets, but it is enormously profitable for Wall Street banks and hedge funds so they prevent the SEC from addressing it.
3. As a result of this crime, while Wall Street profits, corporate governance in America has been shattered.
4. As a result of this crime, while Wall Street profits, companies (often innovative tech and biotech companies) are damaged or destroyed and Americans are robbed of their savings (often without any awareness on their part beyond their and their pensions’ losses in the stockmarket).
5. This crime has become so extensive that it may have created in our country’s financial system a crack so deep it could trigger a systemic collapse.
6. The relationship between Wall Street and the financial media is inappropriately cozy.
7. Though economists have produced data supporting the view that this has the makings of the financial scandal of our lifetime, most in the financial media have proven themselves incapable of bringing a critical mindset to this issue because of their too-cozy relationship with Wall Street (some elements of the financial media actually seem to be engaged in a cover-up on behalf of financial elites they cover).
8. Within “social media” (blogs, message boards, and wikis) evidence for the preceding points has been pieced together, but as a result, there is a campaign to hijack the social media discourse.
9. I will describe the evolution of a group of players who have come to dominate Wall Street and who turn up wherever this crime is occuring. Some of them have long-standing connections with media figures who are promulgating the cover-up in the financial press. Some also have discrete relationships with those who are hijacking social media to the same effect.
10. I will describe the pawns, that is, those figures from the world of financial journalism and social media who engage in blue-smoke-and-mirror attempts to obfuscate the issues and even cover-up on behalf of the people implicated in this crime.
To many, the preceding will appear a bald and unconvincing tale, too fantastic for even the loopiest Hollywood thriller (in fact, when I first began discussing these claims, The New York Post ran a photo-shopped picture of me with a flying saucer coming out of my head). For two years the profession of financial journalism has demonstrated that in its view there are, in fact, two subjects beyond critical examination: Wall Street, and the profession of financial journalism.
In the chapters that follow I will examine evidence that has emerged over the last two years and the degree to which it confirms or falsifies these claims.
I thank you for the courtesy of your visit and the gift of your attention.

"Obama for President-The man I've been waiting for.
This is what I've been saying for years (but without the profanity).muttbob"
This is what I've been saying for years (but without the profanity).muttbob"
A Message from Barack Obama Exploratory Committee: "The decisions that have been made in Washington these past six years, and the problems that have been ignored, have put our country in a precarious place. Our economy is changing rapidly, and that means profound changes for working people. Many of you have shared with me your stories about skyrocketing health care bills, the pensions you've lost and your struggles to pay for college for your kids. Our continued dependence on oil has put our security and our very planet at risk. And we're still mired in a tragic and costly war that should have never been waged.
But challenging as they are, it's not the magnitude of our problems that concerns me the most. It's the smallness of our politics. America's faced big problems before. But today, our leaders in Washington seem incapable of working together in a practical, common sense way. Politics has become so bitter and partisan, so gummed up by money and influence, that we can't tackle the big problems that demand solutions. And that's what we have to change first. We have to change our politics, and come together around our common interests and concerns as Americans. This won't happen by itself. A change in our politics can only come from you; from people across our country who believe there's a better way and are willing to work for it."

Conspiracy Planet - Vote Fraud - USA - Vote Machine Fraud Challenge Reaches Supreme Court

Conspiracy Planet - Vote Fraud - USA - Vote Machine Fraud Challenge Reaches Supreme Court:
A little-noticed voting rights lawsuit has made its way to the U.S.
Supreme Court (Docket No. 05-930). It constitutes the first legal
challenge to the widespread use of nontransparent voting systems.
"Prior to the Civil War, voting was a public and transparent process.
It was only after the war, as the elective franchise expanded to
minorities and women, three changes to state and federal election
laws were adopted that eventually made the voting process a private
and nontransparent enterprise: absentee voting was allowed (1870's),
the Australian secret ballot method was adopted (1880's), and voting
machines were permitted by Congress (1899).
Today, 94.6% of all votes are processed by machines and
approximately 30% of all voting is conducted early or by absentee."

Bush Impeachment - The Illinois State Legislature is Preparing to Drop a Bombshell
Bush Impeachment - The Illinois State Legislature is Preparing to Drop a Bombshell: "The Illinois General Assembly joins a growing chorus of voices calling for censure or impeachment of President Bush including Democratic state committees in Vermont, Wisconsin, New Mexico, Nevada and North Carolina as well as the residents themselves of seven towns in Vermont, seventy Vermont state legislators and Congressman John Conyers. The call for impeachment is starting to grow well beyond what could be considered a fringe movement. An ABC News/Washington Post Poll Conducted April 6-9 showed that 33% of Americans currently support Impeaching President Bush, coincidentally, only a similar amount supported impeaching Nixon at the start of the Watergate investigation. If and when Illinois HJR0125 hits the capitol and the individual charges are publicly investigated, that number is likely to grow rapidly. Combined with the very real likelihood that Rove is about to be indicted in the LeakGate investigation, and Bush is in real trouble beyond his plummeting poll numbers. His cronies in the Republican dominated congress will probably save him from the embarassment of an impeachment conviction, for now, but his Presidency will be all but finished."

In order to benefit the the rich and big business, especially big oil and big
pharmaceuticals, Bush's Republican mob swindled all poor people and
those of the middle class, the old, the needy, the sick, the "illegal" aliens,
the students and the entire next generation. The wealthy were awarded
fortunes gouged from ordinary people. For every dollar the worker earns
today, the boss gets over $1000 for damn little labor.
Regrettable many of the top crooks, bosses of the Republican mob,
including Bush, Cheney and even the crackpot Alaskan senator,
Ted Stevens, escaped justice. If there have ever been wicked politicians
who should be impeached, Bush, Cheney and Stevens are them! We're not
talking about a trivial thing like a blowjob or a sexual dalliance. These are
real criminals responsible for war, lies, killing tens of thousands of people,
stealing hundreds of millions of dollars, corruption on a colossal scale,
constitutional violations, pandering to the Christian crazies in order to
abridge others' religious rights and even snooping into the private affairs
of ordinary citizens.
The real criminals aren't in prison. The system is rigged to protect the
politicians and the powerful while prosecuting the poor and the petty criminal.
The era of the "good" politician seems to be waning. There is no longer
much "public service." Now it's public exploitation. Where ever there is
corruption, money, guns and harm, there you'll find droves of conservatives
and Republicans.

"Bush Family Bagman James A. Baker III, currently senior partner of the Baker Botts law firm and senior counselor for the Carlyle Group, as well as the former US Secretary of State under George Bush Sr., will co-chair the Iraq Study Group, together with former Congressman Lee Hamilton, who co-chaired the '9-11 Commission.'
Baker, a high-level Bush Family factotum, is often sent by the Bush Cabal to smooth-talk or arm-twist when the need arises.
It should be noted that Baker was sent by President George W. Bush in 2004 to talk creditor nations into 'forgiving' Iraq's debts. At the same time, Baker's employer The Carlyle Group was trying to collect $27 billion for Kuwait in a global 'war reparations' shake-down.
It was also James Baker who convinced the Supreme Court that Bush would suffer 'irreparable harm' if the Florida ballots were re-counted. "

Defy Greedy Capitalist White Male Supremacist Liars: by Barbara Tutor "Resistance must proceed from two directions: 1) at the local level, working up the pyramid of domination, to defy supremacy at all levels; and 2) impeach fraudulent politicians, defy tyrants of wealth and supremacy, prosecute their crimes, and finally institute a true democracy of the people, by the people, and for the people."

Defy Greedy Capitalist White Male Supremacist Liars: by Barbara Tutor
"President George W. Bush pushed the supremacist creed farther by proclaiming as U.S. doctrine, "Any state that harbors terrorists is a terrorist state, and has to be treated accordingly by the civilized world." Bush's veiled threat in his war against terrorism was directed towards any nation that would defy the global interests of the U.S. plutocracy. Citing a contrived connection between Saddam Hussein and the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center, neo-conservative bullies proceeded to preemptively shock and awe the world by smashing Iraq to bits and subjecting Iraqis to unimaginable terrors and tortures. Throughout the invasion and occupation of Iraq, propaganda and outright lies from both embedded and hired media celebrities, have been used by the administration to rally support of U.S. citizens by spinning despicable acts into Orwellian sound-bites. However, a few persistent critical news commentators, journalists, and internet bloggers, have exposed the inconsistencies and have courageously spoken truth to power. Irrevocably, the public is grasping the lies and recognizing the liars.
U.S. citizens, now overwhelmingly opposed to Bush's dictatorial policies, rouse to find themselves in a quagmire with the power being stripped away from their constitutional rights by a fraudulent president, corrupt politicians, and appointed cronies. In the name of "security" our homeland is being hustled, sold-off, and sold-out by plutocrats seeking global dominion.
The big lie is: Authorities, who are democratically elected because of superior knowledge and leadership abilities, represent the people by using political power to protect our homeland, and further that most people like this arrangement; therefore to defy authority is to be alone or in such small numbers as to be ineffective and socially rejected.
The bitter truth is: Authorities, who predominately owe their careers to wealthy elitists and therefore cater to wealthy elitists, keep corrupt financial deals secret, employ covert operations by aggressive military-industrial police forces to expand and protect the interests of wealthy elitists. Commercial media also cater to wealthy elitists for advertising dollars by dispensing propaganda and PsyOps to keep people consuming shallow electoral contests of divide and conquer strategists like Karl Rove.
Once a majority of the U.S. populace figures this out, unites, denounces greedy wealthy elitists, and defies corrupt authorities; then citizens have the power to throw the bastards out, open up secret places, and change from the old order of corrupt rule by lawful oppression, to cooperative peaceful commonwealths of social justice

Should the Number One Candidate Criterion be Ability to Buy TV Ads?
Should the Number One Candidate Criterion be Ability to Buy TV Ads?: February 24, 2006
"Should the Number One Candidate Criterion be Ability to Buy TV Ads?" by Rob Kall
Ask a political person about how to judge a candidate's viability, electability and potential and often, very often, the first criteria they use is the ability to raise money. That means the willingness to sit for four, six, eight hours a day, in a room, making phone calls asking for money. This is probably the number one criteria most beltway politicians judge candidates to be good or not. Let's take this a bit further. What do they use the money they raise for? The number one cost of a campaign is TV advertising. It can suck up millions of dollars.
Take the fund raising out of politics and you make it so much cleaner, so much more free from influence buying and peddling. This is not optional. It is something we must do to rescue politics from the dangerous downward cycle of corruption it has been spiralling into.
Considering the voting public's low opinion of the media, with less 2% considering it excellent and only 13% considering it good or excellent, it is no wonder that the public feels the media should give up ad time for the price of democracy.

The absence of procedures to conduct a recount of votes cast on electronic voting machines; and Inadequate procedures to ensure uniform and proper treatment throughout the state of access by recount observers to provisional, absentee, and spoiled ballots, to poll books, to voting machines and to other materials. The Ohio election and recount have been the subject of a number of investigations and reports. A report by the U.S. House Judiciary Committee's Democratic staff states that there were massive and unprecedented voter irregularities and anomalies in Ohio. In many cases these irregularities were caused by intentional misconduct and illegal behavior, much of it involving Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell, the co-chair of the Bush-Cheney campaign in Ohio.

OpEdNews.Com Progressive, Tough Liberal News and Opinion: The South Florida Sun-Sentinel uncovered emails from Florida Gov. Jeb Bush that confirmed those allegations and directly implicated Brown as playing politics at the expense of hurricane victims. “As the second hurricane in less than a month bore down on Florida last fall, a federal [FEMA] consultant predicted a "huge mess" that could reflect poorly on President Bush and suggested that his re-election staff be brought in to minimize any political liability, records show,” the Sentinel reported in a March 23 story.

Ten Preliminary Reasons Why the Bush Vote Does Not Compute, and Why Congress Must Investigate Rather Than Certify the Electoral College
Ten Preliminary Reasons Why the Bush Vote Does Not Compute, and Why Congress Must Investigate Rather Than Certify the Electoral College
1. More than 106,000 Ohio ballots remain uncounted. As certified by Blackwell, Ohio’s official results say 92,672 regular ballots were cast without indicating a choice for president.
2. Most uncounted ballots come from regions and precincts where Kerry was strongest. In Hamilton County, 4,515 ballots or 51.64 percent of the uncounted county total, came from Cincinnati, where Kerry won 67.98 percent to Bush’s 31.54 percent.
3. Of the 147,000 combined provisional and absentee ballots counted by hand after Election Day, Kerry received 54.46 percent of the vote.
4. Turnout inconsistencies reveal tens of thousands of Kerry votes were not simply recorded.
5. Many certified turnout results in key regions throughout the state are simply not plausible, and all work to the advantage of Bush.
6. Due to computer flaws and vote shifting, there were numerous reports across Ohio of extremely troublesome electronic errors during the voting process and in the counting.
7. In Miami County, two sets of results were submitted to state officials. The second, which padded Bush's margin, reported that 18,615 additional votes were counted, increasing Bush’s total by exactly 16,000 votes.
8. Democratic voters were apparently targeted with provisional ballots. These ballots require voters to fill out extensive forms at the poll.
9. Ohio's Election Day exit poll was more credible than the certified result, according to intense statistical analysis.
10. The Ohio recount wasn’t random or comprehensive and may have involved serious illegalities.

t r u t h o u t - Bush's 'Incredible' Vote Tallies
t r u t h o u t - Bush's 'Incredible' Vote Tallies: "Republican pollster Dick Morris said the Election Night pattern of mistaken exit polls favoring Kerry in six battleground states - Florida, Ohio, New Mexico, Colorado, Nevada and Iowa - was virtually inconceivable.
'Exit polls are almost never wrong,' Morris wrote. 'So reliable are the surveys that actually tap voters as they leave the polling places that they are used as guides to the relative honesty of elections in Third World countries.... To screw up one exit poll is unheard of. To miss six of them is incredible. It boggles the imagination how pollsters could be that incompetent and invites speculation that more than honest error was at play here.'
But instead of following his logic that the discrepancy suggested vote tampering - as it would in Latin America, Africa or Eastern Europe - Morris postulated a bizarre conspiracy theory that the exit polls were part of a scheme to have the networks call the election for Kerry and thus discourage Bush voters on the West Coast. Of course, none of the networks did call any of the six states for Kerry, making Morris's conspiracy theory nonsensical. Nevertheless, some Democrats have agreed with Morris's bottom-line recommendation that the whole matter deserves 'more scrutiny and investigation.' [The Hill, Nov. 8, 2004]"

Consortiumnews.com: "Bush's 'Incredible' Vote Tallies"
By Sam Parry
November 9, 2004
George W. Bush's vote tallies, especially in the key state of Florida, are so statistically stunning that they border on the unbelievable.
While it's extraordinary for a candidate to get a vote total that exceeds his party's registration in any voting jurisdiction - because of non-voters - Bush racked up more votes than registered Republicans in 47 out of 67 counties in Florida. In 15 of those counties, his vote total more than doubled the number of registered Republicans and in four counties, Bush more than tripled the number.
Statewide, Bush earned about 20,000 more votes than registered Republicans.
By comparison, in 2000, Bush's Florida total represented about 85 percent of the total number of registered Republicans, about 2.9 million votes compared with 3.4 million registered Republicans.
Bush achieved these totals although exit polls showed him winning only about 14 percent of the Democratic vote statewide - statistically the same as in 2000 when he won 13 percent of the Democratic vote - and losing Florida's independent voters to Kerry by a 57 percent to 41 percent margin. In 2000, Gore won the independent vote by a much narrower margin of 47 to 46 percent.
[For details on the Florida turnout in 2000, see http://www.msnbc.com/m/d2k/g/polls.asp?office=P&state=FL . For details on the 2004 Florida turnout, see http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/pages/results/states/FL/P/00/index.html
Exit Poll Discrepancies
Similar surprising jumps in Bush's vote tallies across the country - especially when matched against national exits polls showing Kerry winning by 51 percent to 48 percent - have fed suspicion among rank-and-file Democrats that the Bush campaign rigged the vote, possibly through systematic computer hacking.

The Free Press -- Independent News Media - Election 2004
The Free Press -- Independent News Media - Election 2004: "January 3, 2005"
The presidential vote for George W. Bush does not compute.
By examining a very wide range of sworn testimonies from voters, polling officials and others close to the administration of the Nov. 2 election; by statistical analysis of the certified vote by mathematicians, election experts and independent research teams who have conducted detailed studies of the results in Ohio, New Mexico, Florida and elsewhere; from experts who studied the voting machines, tabulators and other electronic equipment on which a fair vote count has depended; and from a team of attorneys and others who have challenged the Ohio results; the freepress.org investigative team has compiled a portrait of an election whose true outcome must be investigated further by the Congress, the media and all Americans -- because it was almost certainly not an honest victory for George W. Bush.
Crucial flaws in the national vote count, most importantly in Ohio, New Mexico and Florida, indicate John Kerry was most likely the actual winner on November 2, as reported in national exit polls. At very least, the widespread tampering with how the election was conducted, and how Ohio's votes were counted and re-counted, has compromised this nation's historic commitment to free and fair elections. (I suppose this is a relatively unusual way of looking at it )"
I found this tidbit interesting:
'The profile of both sides of the Internet auction does jibe with the history of vote-buying in America, said Larry J. Sabato, a University of Virginia political scientist and author of the 1996 book Dirty Little Secrets: The Persistence of Corruption in American Politics.
'Especially telling is the fact that the payoff-per-vote, as tallied on the site, is settling into the $10-$20 range -- the amount of cash an individual vote tends to command in other, non-Internet-based schemes.
'"It always seems to be about $20," Sabato said. "That must be the going rate. And when you think about it, it makes sense. Because 10 bucks is not what it used to be. With 20 bucks you can get a pretty good meal, if you know where to go. And I think that's how some people conceive of it. Their vote may be worth a meal. It's sad, but that may be true."'

As I was about to vote with the electronic system, I asked this judge if they had a way to check people's votes through a paper backup.
The official said no, and then in a low voice so no one else would hear, added, And that really makes us nervous, with Diebold as the owner of that system.
Goodbye, hanging chads. Hello, computer fraud that leaves no trace, no chads hanging.
Diebold Inc. of North Canton, Ohio, supplied scores of machines and counted millions of votes Tuesday, while reportedly discarding many votes for Democrat John Kerry, according to British investigative reporter Gregory Palast. Walden O'Dell, chief executive of Diebold and a top fundraiser for the Bush campaign, wrote in a fund-raising letter last year that he was committed to helping Ohio deliver its electoral votes to the president next year.
That he did.
Software errors involving the system can change results, computer scientists say. Since the majority of touch screens in the United States do not produce paper records, the machines could alter ballots without anyone noticing.
What has most concerned scientists are problems that are not observable, so the fact that no major pro"
